Core Team
Lydia Olander (project lead) is director of the Ecosystem Services Program at the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy at Duke University. She is developing the institute’s expanding initiative on ecosystem services, including playing a key role in coordinating the National Ecosystem Services Partnership and the Federal Resource Management and Ecosystem Services project.
James Boyd is a senior fellow at Resources for the Future and director of its Center for the Management of Ecological Wealth. His research is on the intersection of economics, ecology, and law, with a focus on the measurement and management of ecosystem goods and services.
Sally Collins works as a consultant, managing a network of international leaders in forestry, advancing policies for ecosystem services, and advising on organizational design and structure. She formerly served as director for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Office of Environmental Markets and as associate chief of the U.S. Forest Service. Currently, she is co-chair (and also a founder) of MegaFlorestais, a decade-old network convened by Rights and Resources Initiative. Megaflorestais annually brings together the top leaders of public forest agencies around the world to address the challenges facing the world’s forests (Megaflorestais.org).
Lynn Scarlett is managing director of public policy at The Nature Conservancy. Formerly, she was co-director of the Center for the Management of Ecological Wealth at Resources for the Future and, prior to that position, deputy secretary and chief operating officer at the Department of the Interior.
Dean Urban is professor of landscape ecology and division chair of Environmental Sciences and Policy at the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University. He focuses his expertise in forest community biology on agents and implications of pattern in forested landscapes and on developing practical analytic approaches that are immediately applicable to conservation issues.
